The Missouri Valley Adult Education Association (MVAEA), the oldest regional adult education association in the United States, was established in October 1938. The purpose of MVAEA is to serve as a means of cooperation among individuals and organizations which are engaged in, or interested in, any phase of adult education within the Missouri Valley Region. Membership is for anyone affiliated with lifelong learning or adult and continuing education. The Association serves the states of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, each of which has a state organization that provides services to their membership. From 1947 on, there has been a yearly conference, with each state in the Association taking its turn to host the meeting.
