The Office of the Academic Dean was created in 1948. The first Academic Dean was Sr. Jutta Hollenbeck. Sr. J. Dolores Brunner (then known as Sr. M. Povidencia) became Alverno's second Academic Dean in 1959. Sr. J. Dolores Brunner was Academic Dean during a period of great growth and development for Alverno College. During her tenure, Loretto Hall (now the Campus Center) was built (1965) the Nursing Education Building (1966) was built, the Faculty Senate was created (1968), the curriculum review that culminated in Alverno's ability-based curriculum was begun with the September '69 program and noticeable changes in the student population occurred as the number of lay students grew while the number of religious students decreased.
