Robert A. Bryan had a long career in higher education, both as a professor and administrator. Between 1957 and 1990 he taught English at several Florida colleges and universities. Meanwhile he began his administrative career at the University of Florida in 1961 and ultimately served as interim president there in 1989-1990 and subsequently retired. In 1991 he was asked to become the interim president of the University of Central Florida and served until 1992.
