Indiana Missionary Society.

Hide Profile

The Indiana Missionary Society was formed in 1822 for the purpose of evangelizing the new state. Founded by Presbyterian circuit riders, the society sent riders throughout the state. In 1826 the society became a part of the American Home Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church. The Indiana Society then changed its mission from organizing churches to advising the larger organization where churches needed to be founded. The Indiana society continued its circuit riders into the 1830s and possibly beyond.
