Leonard Brewer was born February 8, 1907 in Belgrade, Montana. His father, Albert Brewer, was a physician and his mother, Florence Brewer, was a nurse. He spent his early years on an eastern Montana homestead near Edwards, Montana, before the family moved to Baker, Montana, where Brewer attended high school. He graduated from the University of Montana-Missoula in 1928 and from Harvard Medical School in 1932. His six year residency training focused on internal medicine, obstetrics, and surgery. Brewer practiced medicine in Montana from 1939 to 1989. He belonged to the Montana Medical Association, the Kiwanis, and the Mendelssohn Club
Brewer died in Missoula, Montana on January 31, 2003.
