The members of United Lutheran in downtown Eugene sensed an opportunity for a new Lutheran church in north Eugene and supported the efforts of the Pacific Synod to establish a church. A first meeting of interested persons was held by Pastor Henkel, the mission developer, on June 23, 1955. Pastor Henkel soon became the called pastor of the congregation and brought not only good direction and enthusiasm to the new mission, but also a great talent for music. The love of music has marked the congregation ever since. When the new church was dedicated on June 12, 1960, there was also a new organ for the enhancement of the worship life of the parish. The sale of half of the five acres of the church property to a hospital group made funds available that paid off the mortgage, established a trust fund and made possible a half-time associate ministry. The congregation is fully involved with a strong ministry of witness and concern in the community.
