Captain Marion H. Eppes was born in 1912 in Lineville, Alabama. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1935. He trained as a naval aviator in airships, and during WWII he served in USS Chester. He was navigator in USS Intrepid off the coast of Japan, 1944-1946. Eppes was on the staff of the General Line School, Newport, RI from 1947-1950, and assistant naval attaché for air, Athens, Greece, 1950-1952. He was CO, Naval Station Midway in 1954. He retired from the Navy in 1961 and earned a master's degree from the University of Maryland in 1977.
