Stockton (Calif.). Mayor's Crosstown Freeway Relocation Committee (1967)

Since 1964 Stockton, California has lain between two major north-south freeways, U.S. 5 and U.S. 99. Residents early felt need to proceed east-west from one freeway to other without necessity of driving on city streets. Route for new connector freeway (Route 4, Ort Lofthus Freeway) ran across two miles of residential neighborhoods. Mayor's Committee was formed to study problems associated with displacement of hundreds of Stockton residents. One member was Harold S. Jacoby, Dean of College of the Pacific. Crosstown Freeway was opened in 1994.
