Dr. David Lewis Earnest was a professor at the State Normal School for thirty-five years and at the University of Georgia for nine years. Dr. Earnest was one of the first bicycle riders in Athens as well as being one of the few who practiced photography as a hobby in the early 1900s. He had a darkroom at the State Normal School as well as one at home. Dr. Earnest's pictures are located in the University of Georgia Libraries Special Collections, the Photography Archives of the Art Department, and many are still in private hands. Dr. Earnest delighted in his hobby and always gave copies to the subjects he photographed.
