Born in New Hartford, Oneida County, N.Y., 10 Feb. 1803. Came to Buffalo in 1829 to study medicine in the office of Dr. Cyrenius Chapin. He gave up medicine for business, and was a longtime partner of Hiram Pratt. He also served as president of the Bank of Buffalo, and was elected mayor of Buffalo in 1848.
