Middlebury, Vt., had been without a town band or bandstand for a number of years when Judge Donald Ferland established a band to perform in the U.S. Bicentennial celebration and the Middlebury Rotary Club, at the urging of Doris Bowker, decided to build a bandstand. Local contractor Theron Wolcott designed the structure and oversaw the construction, using volunteer labor by Rotary Club members. The Rotary Club has continued to maintain the bandstand.
