The Baffin Island Expedition (also known as the Putnum Expedition and the Morrissey Expedition) departed Rye, New York, in June 1927, and returned in early October 1927. Captain Robert "Bob" Bartlett piloted the Schooner Effie M. Morrissey, under the direction of George Palmer Putnam. Also on the expedition were Professor Laurence M. Gould, geographer and topographer; Donald M. Cadzow of the American Indian Museum; Robert E. Peary, Jr.; Maurice Kellerman, film maker; Peter Heinbecker, physician; Fred Limekiller, taxidermist; Edward Manley; Wallace R. Hawkins; Yale sophomore George T. Weymouth; Monroe G. Barnard; archeologist Junius B. Bird; David Binney Putnam, son of George Palmer Putnam; Deric Nusbaum; John A. Pope, surveyor; William Bartlett, brother of Robert Bartlett; Ralph Spracklin; Tom Spracklin; George Curtis, Boatswain; William Pritchard, the cook; and Arthur French. The expedition made stops in Brigus, Newfoundland, and places in Labrador on the way and back from Baffin Island.
