On June 6-9, 1920, the Iowa State College (University) sponsored a semi-centennial celebration in honor of the 1869 opening of the institution. The celebration consisted of a Semi-Centennial Commencement, Founder's Day Celebration, and a homecoming feature for alumni. Special events included an historical pageant, military ceremonies, divisional symposia, a dinner and baseball game against Drake University. World War I prevented the celebration from being held in 1919.
