Florida. White House Conference on Children and Youth Steering Committee.

Hide Profile

The White House Conference on Children and Youth is a tradition which dates back to 1909 when President Theodore Roosevelt invited a group of citizens to Washington to discuss the welfare of children and youth. Between 1920 and 1970, succeeding presidents convened similar conferences. These meetings brought together community leaders and workers with children and youth to bolster services, both public and private. The Children's Bureau and other important services have been started through these conferences.
