John A. "Red" Wolrich was born on April 6, 1903, in London, England, to Frederick and Charlotte Wolrich. The Wolrich family moved to Swift Current, Saskatchewan, in 1906. In 1921, John Wolrich came to Cascade County, Montana, where he worked for the Henry Sieben Ranch at Adel Basin. He continued there until 1930, when he moved to Lincoln and worked as a foreman at the Silver King Ranch. He remained at the Ranch until 1945, when he moved to Helena and began working for the A. T. Hibbard Ranch. He remained with Hibbard until 1974, when he retired.
John "Red" Wolrich married Viola Schlack in Helena on January 25, 1933. They had one daughter, Lois Mae Jordan. Wolrich died on June 20, 1981, at St. Peters Hospital in Helena. He was buried in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
