Founded in 1893 by Hannah G. Solomon (1858-1942), the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) involved its members in community affairs ranging from health and education to citizenship, naturalization and resettlement of Jewish immigrants. The Charleston, South Carolina, Section of NCJW was founded in 1906 by Rebecca Octavia Cohen.
