Historic American Buildings Survey. District 16 (Ala.)
The Historic American Buildings Survey was founded in 1934 with the purpose of assembling an archives of building art in America. Established by the National Park Service, the American Institute of Architects, and the Library of Congress, the survey was the first by the federal government to document and identify historic structures on a nationwide basis. The Ala. chapter of the American Institute of Architects surveyed the historic structures in the state which resulted in detailed studies of the buildings.
