Jahncke, Ernest L. (Ernest Lee), 1877-1960
Variant namesErnest Lee Jahncke Sr. was born in New Orleans, La. and graduated from Tulane University. He was a rear admiral in the U.S. Naval Reserve, Assistant Secretary of the Navy during the Hoover administration (1929-1933), president of Jahncke Interests in New Orleans, and first executive director of the Louisiana State Department of Commerce and Industry (1937-1941). Jahncke also was an administrator of the Tulane University Education Fund, one of the South's leading yachtsmen, and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). He became the only member ever ejected from the IOC after taking a strong public stand against the Berlin Games in July 1936.
