Calvary Lutheran Church (Grants Pass, Or.)

Hide Profile

The history of Calvary Lutheran began long before its formal organization. Dr. H. L. Foss, President of the Pacific District of the ELC had, along with many Lutherans in the Grants Pass area, longed for a church there. The area was surveyed in 1957 and was put on the list of mission congregations to be established. In 1958 a site for the church was located and purchased. Rev. Brandt and his family arrived in November of 1959 and lived in the recently purchased parsonage. The first service was conducted Sunday January 10, 1960, and on January 17 the Sunday School was organized. On Sunday, May 1, Dr. H. L. Foss conducted the service of organization.
