Mary Elizabeth Langdon was born and raised in Alabama, and came to Columbus, Ga. in 1910 to attend business college. She began working for the Max Rosenberg Company and then left work to marry and start a family. When her children had grown up, she returned to work for another 21 years. She and her family lived in the historic Langdon house for many years until it was sold after her husband's death.
