Japanese board on books for young people

IBBY was founded in Zurich (Switzerland) in 1953 and today includes more than 60 National Sections all over the world. A non-profit organization, IBBY is committed to bring books and children together. Biennially, IBBY awards its Hans Christian Andersen Awards to a living author and illustrator, whose complete works have made a lasting contribution to children's literature. Also biennially, IBBY recommends outstanding, recently published books, honoring writers, illustrators and translators from IBBY member countries in it's Honour List. The list includes the best in children's literature from each country, which are recommended as suitable for publication throughout the world. Annually, different National Sections of IBBY sponsor the International Children's Book Day, to inspire a love of reading and promote children's books through various activities and special events. Also annually, IBBY gives its IBBY-Asahi Reading Promotion award to a group or institution making a lasting and outstanding contribution to reading promotion programs for children and young people. IBBY has a quarterly journal, Bookbird, gives seminars and workshops, and has the Centre of Books for Disable Young People, which provides information, consultation, and documentation services in Oslo (Norway).

The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) is an international non-profit organization which encourages the publication and distribution of quality children's books, especially in developing countries; provides support and training for those involved with children and children's literature; and stimulates research and scholarly works in the field of children's literature. Since IBBY was founded in Zurich, Switzerland in 1953, its membership has grown to include more than sixty National Sections all over the world. The Hans Christian Andersen Award is the highest international recognition given to an author and an illustrator of children's books. Since 1956 IBBY has presented the biennial Hans Christian Andersen Award to a living author whose complete works have made a lasting contribution to children's literature. The biennial illustrator's award was added by IBBY in 1966. The nominations are made by the National Sections of IBBY and the recipients are selected by a distinguished international jury of children's literature specialists. The jury collects informational dossiers submitted by candidates nominated by the National Sections of IBBY.
