In 1952, the Lutheran World Federation's Commission on World Mission (LWF-CWM) established a Tanganyika Sub-Committee to assist and council the National Lutheran Council's Commission on Younger Churches and Orphaned Missions (CYCOM) in administering mission work in Tanganyika Territory, East Africa. Although CYCOM transferred most of its mission work to the LWF-Department of World Mission in 1952, it retained its responsibilities in Tanganyika at the Tanganyikan government's request. The Sub-Committee, composed of Lutheran mission society directors of Tanganyikan missions, provided an annual study of personnel needs in the
Territory and in 1952-1953, assisted in the establishment of the Lutheran Missions Council. It is unclear when the Sub-Committee was terminated. Tanganyika Territory became Tanzania in 1964.
