University of Colorado mathematics professor Ira DeLong organized the Boulder Building & Loan Association in 1890. At one time or another he served as its manager, secretary-treasurer, and member of the board of directors. He helped to organize the Mercantile Bank and Trust Company (Boulder, Colo.) in 1904, and became its president in 1925.
