Solveig Paulson Russell was born March of 1904 in Salt Lake City, Utah. In her mid-teens, the Paulson family moved to Portland, Oregon, living on a farm just outside the city. She went off to college at the University of Oregon, spent four years as a teacher in various rural schools and finally ended her teaching career as a junior high school teacher in Salem. The birth of her daughter, Brenda, opened up the opportunity for Russell to pursue writing as a career. In 1958, she published her first book, entitled Trees for Tomorrow. Between that first creation and 1971, Russell penned forty-five publications, as well as over 3,400 stories, verses and articles in various periodicals.Biographical source: Something About the Author.
