Minister, Superintendent of Home Missions in Utah, Idaho, and Montana, writer and historian.

Born in Pendleton, Niagara County, New York. Educated in Lockport Union School, Hamilton College (A.B. 1859), and Union Theological Seminary (1862). Ordained to the Congregational Ministry in 1864. Served in New Preston, Connecticut (1863-65); Darlington, Wisconsin (1865-70); Normal, Illinois (1870-74); Hannibal, Missouri (1874-75); and Northfield, Minnesota (1875-81). Served as Superintendent of Home Missions in Salt Lake City, Utah (1881-87), and as minister of the Congregational Church in Bellevue, Ohio (1888-92). He authored three histories, One hundred years of missions (1895), The story of Oberlin (1898), and History of Carleton College (1904).
