Jean Goodwin Ames, painter, muralist, sculptor and ceramicist, was born and raised in Santa Ana, Calif. She first studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago and received a B.A. from U.C.L.A. in 1931 and a Masters in Fine Arts from U.S.C. in 1937. She taught art at Citrus Hish School and Junior College from 1933-1936 and at Scripps College and Claremont Graduate School from 1940-1969. Jean and her husband, fellow artist Arthur Forbes Ames, collaborated on numerous murals for the W.P.A. Her tapestries and mosaics decorate buildings throughout Southern California.
