Historical Note
Caltech's oldest social organization, the Gnome Club was founded on March 9, 1897 by James C. Creamer, who became the first president of the Club. Over the years the Gnome Club has had a variety of roles: honorary society, secret society, fraternity, and off-campus club. Its existence and activities have been continuous, and its ideals of courage, loyalty, and truth have remained predominant and unchanged.
