Doris Hancock taught school in several states before coming to Las Vegas in 1924. She began teaching kindergartern at John S. Park School and continued to teach there for 39 years. She was active in several educational organizations and was chosen Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women's Club in 1949. In 1962 she was honored by the Rotary Club as their first Teacher of the Week and in 1963 she was the recipient of the Nevada Outstanding Citizen Award. Her interests included western history and art. After her retirement in 1963, she moved to California.
