McCarter, William, -1911
Variant namesWilliam McCarter was born in Derry, Ireland in 1840 or 1841, but resided in Philadelphia with his wife and children by the beginning of the Civil War. Prior to the war, McCarter worked as a currier. After the war, he was plagued by pain from the injuries he received as a soldier. In the 1880s, McCarter moved to Maryland and then Washington, DC. He died in 1911.
