Skaggs, Jimmy M.

Jimmy M. Skaggs received his master's and doctoral degrees in history from Texas Tech University, where he was Deputy Archivist of the Southwest Collection. In 1970, he joined the economics faculty of Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas, where he also chaired the American studies department. His many published books and articles on the economic history of Western America include his 1973 book titled The Cattle-Trailing Industry: Between Supply and Demand, 1866-1890 . It was originally presented in 1965 as his master's thesis, titled The Great Western Cattle Trail to Dodge City, Kansas.

B.S. degree from Sul Ross State University, 1962. M.A. and Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in 1965 and 1970, respectively. Taught in the Lubbock, Texas, public schools from 1962-1965. Taught in the Texas Tech University History Department as instructor and served as an archivist for the Southwest Collection at Texas Tech University, 1965-1973. Professor of American Studies and Economics at Wichita State University since 1973. Member of the Texas State Historical Association, West Texas Historical Association, and Texas Folklore Society.
