Established in 1809 as the Bank of Washington; in 1885 under the National Bank Act, the bank became the National Bank of Washington; in 1907 purchased the Central National Bank of Washington; in 1954 merged with Hamilton National Bank of Washington and in 1957 with Liberty National Bank of Washington; in 1980s the Washington Bankcorporation was formed as a holding company for the bank; in 1990 Washington Bankcorporation declared bankruptcy; assets of the Washington National Bank of Washington were sold to Riggs National Bank of Washington; in April 1990 the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation held an auction of the National Bank of Washington's historical assets.
