Members of the Executive Committee of the American Lutheran Church (ALC) included the president and vice-presidents of the synod. The president of the ALC was the chairman of the Executive Committee, and the committee elected a secretary from its membership at the first meeting in the new year following each biennial church convention. Its duties included: providing correct interpretations as to the exact meanings of synodical resolutions; assisting the president in supervising the executions of regulations and resolutions of the synod; advising the presidnet in all matters referred to him by the Executive Committee.

Deciding all matters referred to it by the synod, or any of its districts, or any synodical board, or committee, for decision; and to deliberate and advise upon all matters submitted to it for advice by any of the boards or committees of the synod. It was to meet at least once a year.
