Gibson is a Canadian writer and editor, born in London, Ontario in 1934. He taught at Ryerson University. He has published several books including Five Legs (1969), Communion (1971), Perpetual Motion (1982) and Gentleman Death (1993) . In 1973 he edited Eleven Canadian Novelists published by Anansi Press. He is a long-time cultural activist, co-founder of the Writer's Union of Canada and the Writers' Trust. He is a past president of PEN Canada and the recipient of both the Harbourfront Festival Prize and the Toronto Arts Award, and is a Member of the Order of Canada. He lives in Toronto.
