Born in Litchfield, Conn., July 6,1744, son of Josiah Strong and Hannah Smedley; sergeant in 1776; 1st lieut., 1777; capt., 1781; resigned, Jan 1, 1733. Commissioned capt., Sept. 29, 1789; 1st Inf. Mar. 3, 1791; maj. 2nd Inf., Nov. 4, 1791; 2nd Sub-Legion, Sept 4, 1792; lt. col., Feb. 19, 1793; 2nd Inf., Nov. 1, 1796; died. Aug.19, 1801. Was commandant of Detroit in 1799; married Chloe Richmond; died in Cincinnati, Oh. (from Heitman ; Woodruff. Gen. Reg. of Litchfield, Conn. 218) (blue index cards).
