The Lutheran World Federation's (LWF) Committee on Latin America, formed in 1952, was headed by Stewart W. Herman, Jr. and headquartered in New York, New York. The Committee functioned in cooperation with the National Lutheran Council's (NLC) Division of Lutheran Cooperation in Latin America, which became a Department under the Division of Lutheran World Federation Affairs in 1956. The NLC's Division of Lutheran Cooperation in Latin America (1951-55) and later its Division of Lutheran World Federation Affairs (1956-63) served as the Committee on Latin America's Administrative Committee.
In 1963, the Committee on Latin America was given Commission status. Guido Tornquist became its director in 1963. The Commission was disbanded in 1970.
