E.S. Jackson's great uncles, William and Samuel, were two of Victoria's earliest settlers, William being one of the party on J.P. Fawkner's Enterprise, which landed at the site of Melbourne in 1835. William and Samuel Jackson raised sheep at Koora-Koora-Kup north-west of Melbourne, before Samuel moved to Melbourne and became one of the city's first architects. E.S. Jackson's father, John Henry, worked for William Jackson at Koora-Koora-Kup, and later at Sandford, where he became manager and eventually owner, and a prominent personality in the Glenelg Shire.
