Robison, Joel Walter, 1815-1889

Soldier and Texas legislator Joel Walter Robison (1815-1889), born in Washington County, Georgia, was married to Emily Almeida Alexander and had seven children. He fought in several battles, including Velasco (1832), Bexar (1835), and San Jacinto (1836), where he helped capture Antonio López de Santa Anna. Also in 1836, he was made first lieutenant of the Texas Rangers by Sam Houston, and in 1860 he was selected as a member of the Eighth Texas Legislature, a role which he advocated secession.
