The Oregon Environmental Council advances innovative, collaborative solutions to Oregon's environmental challenges for today and future generations. Oregon Environmental Council safeguards what Oregonians love about Oregon -- clean air and water, an unpolluted landscape and healthy food produced by local farmers. As a member-supported nonprofit more than 40 years, the OEC has been a champion for solutions to protect the health of every Oregonian and the health of the place we call home. The OEC works to create innovative change on three levels: work with individuals to live green; work with businesses, farmers and health providers to thrive with sustainable practices; and work with elected officials to create practical policy The OEC's vision for Oregon includes solving global warming, protecting kids from toxics, cleaning up our rivers, building sustainable economies, and ensuring healthy food and local farms.

The Oregon Environmental Council was founded in 1968. One of it's first efforts was to promote the passage of the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness bill. The following year it sponsored the first conference on statewide environmental concerns in Oregon. Other Oregon legislation promoted by the organization included: the "Bottle Bill," of 1971; SB100 land use planning bill; achievement of wilderness status for French Pete Creek Valley in 1978; the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1981; the Oregon Superfund program in 1987; Oregon Groundwater Protection Act of 1989; the Pesticide Right to Know Law, 1999; the Mercury Reduction Act of 2001; and the Climate Change Integration Act of of 2007.
