In 1984, the Southern Furniture Manufacturers Association (SFMA) and the National Association of Furniture Manufacturers (NFMA) merged to form the American Furniture Manufacturers Association (AFMA). In 1984, the Southern Furniture Manufacturers Association and the National Association of Furniture Manufacturers merged to form the American Furniture Manufacturers Association. As the nation's largest trade organization for home furnishing manufacturers, the Association supports the growth, development, and efficiency of home furnishing manufacturing in the United States. Headquartered in High Point, N.C., the Association provides a comprehensive public relations program to represent the industry to consumers, government relations to relay member interests to national agencies and officials, and statistical information about home furnishings manufacturing.
