Baptist mission work in China began as early as 1836 with missionaries, Jehu Lewis Shuck and Henrietta Hall Shuck. Southern Baptist mission work in China began in 1845 after the forming of the Convention. During the century following Southern Baptist beginnings in China, four missions were organized and developed. The missions, organizations of missionaries located in a general area, planned the work to be done in the various stations, through preaching places, schools, hospitals, and other projects. The four mission established in China were, South, Central, North, and Interior.
