Senders, John W. 1920-
John W. Senders was born February 26, 1920. Senders began working for the General Control Company of Boston, Massachusetts in 1943 where he rose to the position of Chief Electronics Engineer, and later Productions Manager. In 1948 Senders received his Artium Baccalaureatus Degree form Harvard College in Experimental Psychology. Senders began contracting out as a Consulting Engineer from 1948 through 1950.
In 1950 Senders began working for the United States Air Force as a research psychologist where he worked on apparatus, controls and environments. In 1956 he became the head of the Department of Psychology at the United States Air Force Arctic Aero Medical Laboratory in Fairbanks, Alaska.
In 1957 Senders began employment with the Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Company until 1962 when he began Consulting for Bolt, Beranek, and Newman, Inc (BBN) in Massachusetts until 1970. During his time at BBN, Senders became principle scientist and a department head. In addition, Senders was a lecturer and senior research associate in psychology at Brandeis University from 1965 through 1972 and began his own consulting firm, Senders Associates, Inc. from 1968 through 1973.
Senders became a visiting professor in 1973 at the University of Toronto in the department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. He was a professor there from 1974 until 1985 when he became Professor Emeritus. He also was a research professor of engineering and psychology (1981 to 1988) and a professor of mechanical engineering (1989 through 1990) at the University of Maine, Orono. Senders served as President (1981 - 1985) and then as Chairman (1986 - 1993) in Human Factors North, Inc., Toronto and President of Emsco, Inc., in Columbia Falls, Maine from 1982 - 1997.
