Professor of Modern European History and prolific scholar of German history. Born NYC, 1915. Educated at Northwestern University (BS 1937, MA 1939) and University of Chicago (Ph. D. 1946). Maehl has travelled extensively throughout Europe, the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, North Africa, Asia, and Australia. He has enjoyed a long teaching career at Texas A & M, DePaul, St. Louis University, University of Auckland (NZ), and from 1968 until his retirement in 1981, at Auburn University.
