Weaver, Harold A., 1953-....
Variant namesChief Billy Curlew was elected the leader of the Moses Band of the Confederated Tribe of the Colville Indians in 1936. In 1946, he was the ranking chief the Tribe. In the late summer, he went to visit Harold Weaver, Forest Supervisor, at the Colville Indian Agency in Nespelem, WA. Through the interpreter Harry Nanamkin, Chief Curlew told him that before it was too late he wanted to show them the old camp grounds and tell them their Indian names and history. He hoped that original Indian names might eventually be restored to some of the areas. In Oct. 1946, Chief Billy, Harold Weaver, Harry Nanamkin and Jake Weipa, a friend of Chief Billy's set out on a two-day tour of the camp grounds. It started at Nespelem, WA near Chief Billy's house. Some of the area they toured were the areas of Coulee City, Grand Coulee, Soap Lake and ended around Rock Island Dam in Wenatchee, WA. A very interesting historical tour of the area ended. Chief Billy indicated he had much more to tell them and they should plan another trip. It is unclear whether the group made another trip.
