Jackson, Felix, 1902-1992.
Felix Joachimsohn was working as a second-string music critic for the Börsen-Courier newspaper in Berlin when he met Kurt Weill in 1925. They become close friends, and during the next two years collaborated on the opera Na und?, for which Joachimsohn provided the libretto. This opera, though completed by Weill, has disappeared. Like Weill and the composer's wife, the singing actress, Lotte Lenya, Joachimsohn left Germany in that year, also coming eventually to the United States. In the U.S. he gained success as writer and producer in Hollywood and New York under the americanized name of Jackson, writing the screenplays for a number of films between 1937 and 1941, including Destry rides again (1939). He also wrote a number of published novels. In 1973-74 he researched and wrote a biography of Weill entitled Portrait of a quiet man, which remains unpublished.
