George Palmer Putnam's Sons (publishers)

George Palmer Putnam and John Wiley established a joint publishing partnership in 1838, which was dissolved in 1848 when Putnam and Wiley established their own companies. On the death of George Putnam in 1872 his sons took over the businessas George Palmer Putnam's Sons. In 1965 the company acquired Berkley Publishing and the combined company was taken over in 1996 by the Penguin Group which merfged it with Penguin USa to form Penguin Putnam Inc. The Putname imprint has been retained.
