Hylton Edwards, Stewart, 1924-1987
Variant namesStewart Hylton Edwards was born in London but lived all his working life outside England - in Africa, Canada and the Caribbean. He pursued several parallel careers: soldier in World War II; major in the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, which he helped to establish; teacher; broadcaster; poet and novelist; businessman. Above all, he was also a composer whose output included four symphonies, piano and viola concertos, two string quartets and a substantial body of chamber, choral, vocal, orchestral and piano music.
