Pope, Mervin R., 1919-1986.
Mervin R. Pope was born in Iowa on February 12, 1919 and enlisted in the Army at Fort Des Moines, Iowa on Aug. 13, 1940. At the time of enlistment, he was unmarried, had completed grammar school and working on a farm. Pope joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Swift, Tex. and served in Company A of the 604th Field Artillery Battalion and Headquarters Company and Company A of the 85th Infantry Regiment. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Pope died in Fremont, Iowa in January 1986.
