Human rights and peace activist, and a youth advocate. In Minnesota, Miriam Levy served with the State Board of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). In St. Paul, she chaired the American Zionist Emergency Council; was a member of the Council on Human Relations; served on the St. Paul and Ramsey County Welfare Board; also on the advisory committee of the Police Dept.'s juvenile division. In San Francisco, she chaired the Motivation for Youth Committee of the Western Addition District Council and founded their Drama Demonstration Project for pre-delinquent children. She also worked with Youth for Service and as a Head Start program troubleshooter; was on the board of the Committee on Compensatory Education; and directed the West Coast Encampment for Citizenship. She was an officer in the Jewish Community Relations Council; Hadassah; the American Association for Ethiopian Jews; the Women's Advisory Council of the NAACP; the Jewish Task Force for Central America; the Northern California Ecumenical Peace Institute; and the Women's Interfaith Dialogue on the Middle East (W.I.D.M.E.). She also served on the first nuclear freeze initiative committee; authored "Emphasis and Action in Latin America" and co-authored a children's book, "Adam's World"; and campaigned against the showing of Operation Abolition, a film made with the blessing of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC).
