Presbytery erected, 1823 in South Carolina by the PCUSA; divided 1839 with part of the presbytery withdrawing from the Church and becoming an independent body; the remainder of the presbytery changed its name to the Presbytery of Charleston. This presbytery and the independent presbytery reunited in 1852 and continued under the name, Charleston; Charleston withdrew to the PCCSA in 1861 and continued in the PCUS in 1865; it continued in the PC(USA) after 1983.
