Genieve Linda Doering was born in Oakley, Kansas, on October 24, 1904. She attended Garnett High School, and briefly worked in her father's bank. She was admitted to the Northwestern College of Liberal Arts in 1925, living in Willard Hall (later renamed the Music Administration Building.) While at Northwestern, she played tennis, and participated in the mathematics and French clubs, among others. She was also a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She transferred to the School of Commerce in 1927, graduating in 1929 with a B.S. Doering married Patrick Clarence McEnany, one of her classmates in the School of Commerce. Little information about their post-college life is available; Patrick spent some time as an accountant for the Order of Railway Conductors, and passed away in 1979. Genieve only briefly outlived him, dying on January 2, 1980.
